How to complete your first swap

From directory → request → accept → mail → mark received.

First swap walkthrough — a short hello from Richard & Megan while tutorial clips are filmed.

The short path

  1. Finish your profile (city, interests, program prefs, do-not-send list).
  2. Say hello in Forum → Introductions so people know you’re here.
  3. Optional: ask a first-swap buddy in your age group. They coach packing in Messages — street stays locked.
  4. Open Directory, find someone open to swaps, tap Request swap.
  5. Wait for Accept — then both of you can see mailing details (per privacy settings).
  6. Print the first envelope kit (packing + this week’s letter) or a mailing label, pack legal wholesome mail, and send it.
  7. Mark “I mailed it” (optional tracking, expect-around date, and what’s in the envelope), then “I received it” when theirs arrives.
  8. Optional: add a pack or haul photo on the swap (no street addresses in pictures).
  9. When both mark received, the swap completes — say thanks in the thread!
Stuck waiting? Open Waiting for envelopes still in transit. Open Quiet swaps to remind a pending request or a silent accepted swap (once every few days) or close if plans fell through. If their envelope is two weeks out (or past the expect-around date), tap Mail is late on Waiting or the swap — your partner and hosts see it. Richard & Megan can open a swap desk from Admin → Swaps, post a host check-in in the thread, or close it if plans fell through.
